Philadelphia Police Officers Endorse Josh Shapiro for Attorney General
Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5, the largest local FOP lodge in Pennsylvania, endorsed Josh Shapiro for Attorney General. In their announcement, FOP Lodge #5 President John McNesby cited Shapiro’s broad bipartisan support, pragmatic approach to keeping officers and the communities they serve safe, and results in combating the heroin crisis and the plague of illegal guns.
“Josh is the guy who officers on the beat, and the citizens we serve, trust to keep our communities safe,” said John McNesby, President of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5.
“We’re proud to join Republican District Attorneys like Jim Martin and others in law enforcement in supporting Josh for Attorney General because he’ll take concrete steps to improve gun safety, support officers and communities, and take on the heroin epidemic. As Chairman of Montgomery County, Josh is the executive leader we need as our next Attorney General to improve public safety,” added President McNesby.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 is one of the largest law enforcement organizations in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and represents 14,000 active and retired officers of the Philadelphia Police and Sheriff’s Departments.
“I’m honored to be endorsed by the men and women in blue who keep Philadelphia’s neighborhoods safe,” said Shapiro. “As Attorney General, I’ll stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them as we take illegal guns off our streets and use every tool available to turn back the heroin epidemic in our Commonwealth.”
The endorsement follows Republican District Attorney Jim Martin’s announcement that he would cross party lines to back Shapiro earlier this summer, and shows that Shapiro is continuing to build broad, bipartisan support among law enforcement leaders in Pennsylvania. The general election is November 8th.
