Today, the SEIU Pennsylvania State Council endorsed Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro for Pennsylvania Attorney General. SEIU represents 80,000 workers in Pennsylvania, including health care workers, security guards, janitors, social workers, and thousands of others.
“We need an Attorney General who will do more than protect the rights that workers already have. We need an Attorney General who will be a champion for working women and men across Pennsylvania,” said Neal Bisno, President of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania and Secretary-Treasurer of the State Council. “We’re confident that Josh Shapiro is that Attorney General. That’s why we are enthusiastically supporting him in this election.”
“SEIU is one of the leading progressive forces for change in our Commonwealth today. I’m deeply grateful for the support of SEIU and the tens of thousands of working families it represents,” said Shapiro. “Pennsylvania’s workers face threats in the workplace, from wage theft to wage discrimination. We should be advancing workers rights, not taking them away. As Attorney General, I will be vigilant in enforcing our labor laws so that workers get the wages and benefits they’ve earned.”
SEIU joins a growing number of elected officials, unions and progressive groups who have endorsed Shapiro in this campaign, including President Obama, Governor Wolf, Senator Casey, Governor Rendell, UFCW 1776, AFSCME, Laborers’ District Council, PSEA, PASNAP, Planned Parenthood PA PAC, Equality PA, Clean Water Action and the Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania.
