Writer Linda Finarelli:

The health care system in the United States is broken. That much was in agreement among those who spoke at a health care reform meeting hosted by state Rep. Josh Shapiro, D-153, Monday at Holy Redeemer Hospital.

“Clearly we’ve got to address access,” Holy Redeemer Health System President and CEO Mike Laign said. “Everyone should have access” to some measure of health care “so they are not living in fear.”

Local Lawmaker Weighs In on Health Care Reform

KYW Newsradio’s Lynne Adkins:

A Pennsylvania state lawmaker is part of the team working to help President Obama reform health care.

Democratic State Representative Josh Shapiro from Montgomery County admits it won’t be easy, but he says both sides of the aisle are committed to making changes. During the very first meeting he says he was surprised to find that people all over the country faced the same health care challenges:

“There was a Native American legislator from the west who was talking in our group about the lack of ob/gyn’s in his community.  That’s the same need we have right here in Southeastern Pennsylvania and our need is only growing. Our states couldn’t be more different but the issues were exactly the same.”

He says reform is possible if both parties feel they have a say in the process.
